The First International Gold Medal Belongs to Kuaijishan

In 1915, with the support of renowned writer Lu Xun, the fifth-generation successor of Yunji Distillery (the predecessor of Kuaijishan Shaoxing Wine Co., Ltd.) traveled across the ocean to participate in the Panama–Pacific International Exposition held in the United States. There, Yunji earned the first international gold medal in the history of Shaoxing yellow wine.

The “Research on the Brewing Methods of Shaoxing Wine, preserved in the Kuaijishan Yellow Wine Museum, records the items that Yunji Distillery brought to the exposition, including: “Four jars of Yunji small Jing-style Shaoxing wine, more than thirty wooden models, four sheets of research reports on Shaoxing wine, and eight photographic prints (depicting refined white rice, wine pressing, the making of Shaoxing yeast starter, washing steamed rice, steaming and cooling rice, boiling and filling rice wine, distilling spirits, and stacking wine vessels).”
